The Golf Course

Everyone is welcome at Thorpe Wood

The beautiful surroundings, challenging golf courses and informal atmosphere all combine to make you feel relaxed and welcome. We offer what you would expect from any private golf club but in a completely open style and with facilities.

Thorpe Wood Golf Course was developed as one of the first major leisure projects in the 1970s expansion of Peterborough, opening for play in 1975. It has long been recognised as one of the leading pay-as-you-play courses in the country offering great value golf for the member and visitor.

Designed by Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas – two legends of golf course design in the United Kingdom, their layout challenges and rewards golfers of all levels and abilities.

The front nine holes are designed around the outer of the layout, completely enclosing the back nine, starting with the only Par 3 of the nine then with holes 3, 4 and 5 set out alongside the River Nene. On the back nine, the par three 11th is the longest of the three Par 3s holes on the inward half, with bunkers protecting both the right and left sides of a kidney-shaped green. You finish with a sweeping Par 5, dogleg hole to the right, crossing a small ditch to make the green in front of The Woodman public house which acts as the 19th hole.

While being inner-city, the beautiful surroundings set within the Nene Park make it feel much more tranquil. A welcoming and informal atmosphere combine to make you feel relaxed and able to enjoy your golf. A Driving Range was added to the site in 2012 so you are able to warm-up before play or come and practise if you do not have the time for a full game. Chipping and putting greens also available.

Thorpe Wood Golf Course is an attractive choice for your regular rounds of golf or a new destination for you and friends when visiting Peterborough.
