The Golf Course
Everyone is welcome at Orton Meadows
The beautiful surroundings, challenging golf courses and informal atmosphere all combine to make you feel relaxed and welcome. We offer what you would expect from any private golf club but in a completely open style and with facilities. You will be surprised that we are so close to the centre of Peterborough.
Orton Meadows Golf Course is an 18 hole, par 67 5613 yard, parkland golf course designed by Dennis and Roger Fitton. The course was developed on land the south side of the River Nene to Thorpe Wood and offers the same “countryside in the city” feel. Initially a 12-hole layout, it was developed into an 18 hole course with the extraction of gravel.
Well maintained, with seven par 3s, it is a shorter course than Thorpe Wood but challenging nevertheless. The front 8 holes are spectacular – with long and strong dog-legged holes skirting around Orton Water. To get through these holes without losing a ball to the water and scoring close to your handicap will mean you have played very well. Some memorable holes and views that would not look out of place in Florida, weather aside! Crossing the Nene Valley Railway tracks to play holes 9 – 17 is a shorter and pleasant 9-holes, with the emphasis on short game and tactical positioning off the tee. You then cross back over the railway for the 18th Hole back towards the finish next to The Granary public house which acts as the 19th hole.
Orton Meadows is an enjoyable course for a varied test and a fantastic walk.
